Greater Cleveland Sports Commission, Special Olympics Ohio, and Destination Cleveland have shared that Cleveland is a finalist among cities vying to host the 2030 Special Olympics USA Games.
Held every four years, these Games would welcome 5,500+ athletes and coaches and 100,000+ fans and require 10,000+ volunteers for eight days of 16+ sports, opening and closing ceremonies, and more. The economic impact is estimated at $70M+, and we know the legacy of hosting this event will leave behind much more.
Our team at Shamrock is rallying behind the effort—and we hope you’ll join us!
The organizers need your help to show that Cleveland has the community involvement, support, and desire to host these athletes and welcome their families and fans.

“These Games give Cleveland the opportunity to host one of the most significant gatherings our region has ever seen. The impact would have generational implications for individuals with intellectual disabilities, their families, and our community’s commitment to inclusion.”
David Gilbert, President and CEO
Greater Cleveland Sports Commission and Destination Cleveland
As a Greater Cleveland Sports Commission board member, I’m excited to support Cleveland’s bid to host the 2030 Special Olympics. A lifelong Clevelander, I know that we have a passion and excitement for creating exceptional sporting event experiences—it’s in our DNA: If you attended or volunteered for the 2024 Women’s NCAA Basketball Championship Final Four or the Pan-American Games this summer, you know Cleveland rose to the challenge and created an unforgettable experience for the athletes, their families, and fans. Based on those marquee events, we have much to be proud of and even more to give.
Let’s show the world what Cleveland is truly made of by bringing the Special Olympics to our city in 2030. If you want to learn more about how you can plug in and help, I’m happy to direct you.
