Americans buy nearly 1 billion bottles of water every week—an average of three bottles per week for every man, woman, and child in the United States. And after the water is gone, only 22% of those plastic water bottles are recycled. Most of them end up in landfills where the plastic can take centuries to break down—but never fully biodegrade.
